The Holiday Island Marttinen is an international course, camp and tourist centre that is specialised in youth activities.We have designed, especially for youth groups, a variety of school camp and excursion services including special paths, handicrafts, adventure and outdoor activities throughout the year. Our programme services are popular among adult groups and families, as well.
The youth centre offer special knowledge of youth work, youth camps, camp schools and adventure and sport activities. One of our function is to develop the methods used in the field of youth work. The center is run under the Finnish law covering youth work and by the Ministry of Education. Our primary mission is to serve the youth and also people working with the youth.
The target group of the youth centre of Marttinen is all young people up to 29. Our youth center is in daily use for youth work (youth camps, camp schools, seminars, traning etc). This work tries to act as a prevention tool but also sometimes functions as a corrective or rehabilitating/therapeutic method which uses more untraditional methods such as adventure programs, physical education, sport, art and practical work.
We collaborate with the county and province in our work; the past years have included topics such as prevention of isolation amongst the youth, anti-drug workshop functions, and rehabilitation. Nowadays we have also a youth information centre and our customers and local, regional and national youngsters and youth workers.
Youth centre of Marttinen is located on an island that has many fascinating things to offer for your freetime. On the island you can find the Traditional Village (museums, exhibitions, handicrafts etc), horseback riding, forest and nature paths, a playground, a bird observation tower, ancient fortress trenches, fishing waters…
We will compile a requested combination of the programme services for each group according to the special interests of the group and the duration of your stay. Our strongest language in addition to Finnish is English. At request we will arrange programme services in other languages, too.
